Notes/Trivia[]
- On July 13, 2022, In a Variety article it was revealed that Genneya Walton would be appearing as Ms. Thompson, a young substitute teacher who is excited to start shaping young minds.[5]
- On August 13, 2022 Fisher revealed in a interview with Deadline when asked with Devi maturing, could Season 4 open the doors for her mom Nalini to find romance? She said in response, “There’s a real hunk coming in for Season 4. Common’s character [Dr. Chris Jackson] came into the story during Devi’s sophomore year and nobody was ready for it then. Nalini admits she wasn’t ready for it. Ivan’s character Andres shows up during Devi’s senior year when there’s been a little more time for everyone to kind of process stuff and be in a different place.”[3]
- On August 15, 2022, it was mentioned by Fisher, who is also co-creator and executive producer, that Cimino will shake things up this season, as “He is a whole different kind of character. He’s like the opposite of Des. He is a true bad boy, like bad at school, kind of gets in trouble a lot... He’s a thirst trap in a different way, [as] he’s someone who [Devi] thinks is a degenerate but can’t help but be like, ‘Well, he is incredibly hot.’”[6]
- Lang Fisher also teased Michael Cimino’s addition as a new “bad boy” love interest for Devi in the final season as well.[6]
- For Eleanor, according to Young, her character "just shoots for the stars, like there’s no going back, [she] just makes big swings, whether it’s in her love life or her passions. So senior year is going to be a really big year [for her].”[6]
- Lee Rodriguez, who plays Fabiola, said her character would find less romantic upheaval as opposed to previous seasons.[6]
- Fisher also added that Season 4 is going to be a good time because the "season is so fun and great and is a real epic senior year, [because] everybody gets to have a great send-off and has a great final season journey.”[6]
- On August 16, 2022, it was confirmed that despite Paxton graduating at the end of Season 3, Darren Barnet will be back for Season 4, and will appear in it as much as he did for Season 3.[7]
- Lang also confirmed that the love triangle storyline of Paxton, Devi and Ben is not yet complete. But that the part that is done is Devi seeing Paxton, as this unattainable dream of a hunk. He is no longer that, and they can be more like peers going forward. [7]
- On August 25, 2022 Lewison teased that in the fourth season, "You'll see a lot more of Ben and a lot more of his vulnerability. You're still going to have those name-droppy moments and snarkiness, and he's going to mess up and he's going to learn and he's going to figure it out like he does every season. But as he grows and matures, you get a better sense of who he is and who he's become. The fans will be able to relate to a storyline or an arc that either gets wrapped up or begins, or we're in the middle of right now. Everyone's just going to be so happy and full of gratitude and maybe crying and blubbering, depending on who you loved and what you loved and what you think about the show."[8]
- On December 21, 2022, it was revealed by Dateline that Jeff Garlin would be appearing as Len, a sweet man who fixes a mean sandwich and who makes Nirmala (Ranjita Chakravarty) reconsider if she really is done with relationships forever.[4]
