... stalked my own mother is the ninth episode in Season 2 of the Netflix series, Never Have I Ever.

Synopsis[]

A disastrous snooping incident compels Devi and Nalini to do some introspection. Paxton steps out of his comfort zone. Eleanor has a breakthrough.

Plot[]

Devi is at home, wondering whether Nalini is secretly dating Dr. Jackson. Devi asks Nalini whether something interesting happened in her workday. Nalini responds by saying she has plenty of "work-dinners" in the week and hence, she will remain busy, telling Devi to ignore her work life, much to Devi's annoyance. Nalini says that Prashant's parents are coming to Sherman Oakes to meet Kamala.

Devi asks to Fabiola for advice about her mother, and she says that her mother is just trying to grieve her dad through another guy, much to Devi's disappointment. Fabiola and Devi come by Eleanor who still refuses to forgive them, being manipulated and gaslighted by Malcolm, much to Fabiola's sadness.

Mr. Shapiro announces that they will have a final exam, much to Trent and Mr. Shapiro's own disappointment. Mr. Shapiro then says that however there would be a creative extra credit task which involves an oral presentation about one major event in America which affected their family. Much to others' shock and Mr. Shapiro's happiness Paxton also offers to do the project.

Devi goes to home to try to gather evidence about Dr. Jackson and Nalini dating, finding a schedule listing a time they have set up for their dinner date. Fabiola goes to Eleanor in the canteen, and Eleanor refuses to forgive her. Malcom leaves Eleanor in the canteen after she defends Fabiola from him, making Eleanor angry at Fabiola again.

Ben and Paxton meet each other, where he sees Ben's grand preparation for his extra-credit project, much to Paxton's jealousy. Meanwhile, Nalini and Doctor Jackson are preparing for their date at his house. After Nalini leaves, Kamala and Devi team up go to Dr. Jackson's house to spy on her.

Paxton finally gets the idea for his extra credit project from the story of his grandpa, which he discovers is interesting and gets excited to learn more about his family history. Devi and Kamala are on the way to gather evidence of Nalini dating Dr. Jackson. They climb up to his house's roof and peek through the window to see their date.

Whilst spying on their date, Devi's phone falls to the pool and all her dad's voicemails get deleted, much to her grief as she falls to get it. Nalini and Dr. Jackson discovers Devi in his house's hot tub much to her dismay, in which they have a strong confrontation about whether Nalini is dating Dr. Jackson or not, to which she along with Dr. Jackson denies making Devi feel guilty for doubting on her mom.

Devi, Kamala, and Nalini then, with Nalini being infuriated at Devi for coming between her and Dr. Jackson's date night, making lash out and call Devi crazy in anger. This makes Devi sad as she goes into her room, wondering if there is any truth behind her mother's words and whether she is actually crazy.

Paxton and his father talk with each other, where they discuss his grandpa and brainstorming how they can get him involved within Paxton's project. His father tells him that Paxton is the only one who can convince him to talk about his grandpa's dark past, as he is the closest to him.

Now, as Devi is back at school, she fails to prepare her extra credit project due to her family drama, which makes Paxton go up for his presentation. During his presentation, Paxton talks about how his grandpa was in an intermittent camp along with many other Japanese immigrants, where he brings in his grandpa much to Mr. Shapiro's excitement. He and his grandpa, wow everyone with their attempts, making Mr. Shapiro cry in the process.

Devi and Dr. Ryan has a talk with each other, in which Devi owns up to her insecurities about being crazy in which she confesses everything going wrong in her life, due to her. Her therapist tells her that she isn't crazy, she is just hurt and emotional, as she suffers from psychosomatic weakness from her dad's death in front of her. Her therapist tells her not to worry too much as this would also mean she would lead an extraordinarily rich and beautiful life, which makes Devi go back to normal.

Nalini and Dr. Jackson breaks up with each other as Nalini is not over Mohan, not being ready to date until she can handle it. Before leaving him, they kiss each other, much to Devi' anger. After coming to her house, Devi tells Nalini that lying to her was wrong, accusing her of betraying her father, much to her Nirmala's anger who makes Devi go to her room.

Meanwhile, Malcolm breaks up with Eleanor by text message because of feeling restricted by the latter's friends and need for monogamy, much to the fury of Eleanor. After being consoled by her stepmother, Eleanor realizes her mistakes for: not giving her step-mother the respect she deserved, not forgiving her dad for marrying someone else and for wrongly insulting her friends, vowing to date better people.

When Devi is alone, Paxton came to Devi's room through climbing to her room to meet up with her, resulting in the duo making out with each other, much to the duo's happiness. The duo spend some time with each other in her room before Paxton goes back through the window. As soon as Paxton leaves, Nirmala confronts Devi in her room, convincing her that she shouldn't fight with Nalini, through confessing to Devi that the she had previously hung up on Mohan just before his death and all that she wants is for her granddaughter to learn from her mistakes.

Moved by Nirmala's words, Devi makes up with her mother, with the latter telling telling Devi she can never move on from her father. Nalini explains that she wanted a break from the pain which is why she dated Dr. Jackson. Nalini apologizes to Devi for lying, telling her she broke up with Dr. Jackson for her. The duo bond with each other, as they watch Mohan's old video, back when Nalini was pregnant with Devi, making up for the voicemails Devi lost in her previous endeavors.

Fabiola and Devi make up with Eleanor, following Eleanor's successful play. Paxton then suddenly calls Devi a "pal" which makes Devi question their relationship status.
