Synopsis[]

An awkward end to an intimate moment has Devi fuming all summer. As senior year begins, the crew has college -- and complicated feelings -- on the brain.

Plot[]

Devi and Ben lay in bed after their first sexual encounter together. However, the situation turned awkward when neither one knew what to say. Ben offered to arrange an Uber for Devi, but she chose to leave on her own after getting dressed.

The next day, Devi confided in Eleanor and Fabiola about her disappointing sexual encounter with Ben. She believed that Ben probably felt the same way and sent him a casual text, suggesting they meet for coffee. Meanwhile, Ben ran into NBA player Dwight Howard while working out at the gym. Seizing the opportunity, he opened up to Dwight about his underwhelming first sexual experience. During their conversation, Ben mentioned that Devi had left immediately after their encounter. Dwight advised Ben that he should be with someone who wants a meaningful relationship who puts Ben at ease. In response to Devi's text, Ben informed her that he was busy and couldn't meet up.

The summer passed and Devi embarked on her first day of Senior Year, hoping to secure a Letter of Recommendation from her AP Literature professor, Dr. Keyes, for her Princeton application. Outside her house, Devi's mother, Nalini Vishwakumar, gave Devi her old car to drive herself to school.

Meanwhile, Paxton, now in college at ASU, found himself missing high school after a conversation with Trent. He agreed to host a college party in his dorm room, but his roommate didn't hold him in high regard, leaving Paxton feeling upset. At school, Fabiola and Eleanor were optimistic that Devi's romantic life would take a positive turn soon.

Devi eagerly anticipated starting college and awaited the beginning of the application process. She still felt awkward around Ben due to their past summer encounter. The trio noticed a new group of senior bad boys who had taken over the jocks' position. Ethan Morales, one of the boys, had become taller and more attractive over the summer, catching Eleanor's attention.

Trent approached Eleanor, suggesting a make-out session by the bleachers, but she declined, claiming to be busy with school-related activities on the first day of senior year. Devi attended her AP Lit class with Dr. Keyes, an elderly woman with severe arthritis who only wrote a few Letters of Recommendation for her students. Dr. Keyes held conservative views, disapproving of teenagers dressing provocatively or being involved in romantic relationships. Devi dressed to impress, wearing a kilt and offering a gift to make an impression. She asked Dr. Keyes to consider writing one of the LoRs for her.

Dr. Keyes mentioned that they would discuss it later. Feeling confident, Devi decided to talk to Ben about their past encounter, only to discover that he was dating Margot. Devi was filled with anger over how Ben had treated her and confronted him in the cafeteria. Ben expressed his belief that their sexual encounter was a one-time thing and that Devi had left abruptly.

Their argument caught the attention of Margot, who intervened to defend Ben. A heated argument ensued between the two girls, with Devi publicly discussing Ben's private matters in front of the other students and even Dr. Keyes, who fainted upon hearing Devi's words.

Devi and Margot were called to Principal Grubbs' office, where Margot was made to apologize to Devi for her offensive comment. Margot's apology, however, lacked sincerity. Meanwhile, Trent overheard Fabiola and Eleanor discussing Eleanor's plans to join Juilliard and pursue a career in theater in England. Worried that Eleanor might break up with him, Trent decided to end their relationship himself.

At the Robotics Club initiation, Fabiola felt disappointed as all the applicants were boys, leaving her as the only girl on the tech team. After school, Devi hurried to her therapist's clinic to vent about the complicated situation involving Ben, Margot, and her own emotions. Dr. Ryan reassured Devi that there was nothing wrong with her and criticized Ben for not appreciating her true self. The therapist advised Devi to channel her anger into writing rather than engaging in verbal conflicts with Margot or Ben, emphasizing that Ben was at fault and Devi's anger directed solely at Margot was counterproductive to feminism. Devi followed the advice and expressed her frustrations by writing in her notebook, finally finding some closure.

That night, Paxton felt left out at a party, unable to fit in with the cool kids and missing his friends from back home. The next day, Devi approached Margot to apologize for the tension surrounding Ben. The two girls had a discussion to resolve their issues, but Margot became angry after accidentally reading Devi's list of hurtful things directed at her. Margot called Devi an asshole, but Devi didn't dwell on it, as she was dragged away by Eleanor, who had urgent news.

In the break room, Trent proposed to Eleanor, asking her to marry him. However, Eleanor declined the proposal and broke up with Trent, recognizing that they were still young. Trent admitted that he knew Eleanor deserved better and didn't want to hold her back if she wasn't ready to commit to a lifetime together. Although hurt, Devi and Trent parted ways on a positive note. Later, in the parking lot, Ben approached Devi and apologized for not returning her calls. He admitted his lack of sexual experience and explained that their first time together had been unsatisfactory for him as well.

Ben conveyed his belief that they were incompatible due to their competitive natures. Devi was disheartened by his comment but promised to be the girlfriend he wanted. However, Ben was certain that it wouldn't work out between them. After their conversation, both Ben and Devi parted ways amicably. As Devi headed to her car, she discovered that someone had vandalized it, spray-painting "stupid b*tch" on the side of the car.
