... begged for forgiveness is the seventh episode in Season 2 of the Netflix series, Never Have I Ever.
Synopsis[]
Devi must learn the art of a genuine apology before it’s too late. Kamala considers standing up for herself. Nalini takes some parenting advice.
Plot[]
Devi is shown being grounded at home with having no access to technology at all, not being allowed to do anything except help her grandmother, much to her own dismay.
Ben then comes into Devi's house at dinner and reprimands her in front of her family for starting Aneesa's rumor. He tells her that Aneesa is going to quit school by the end of the week. He says that she should make things up with Aneesa otherwise, she is going to leave Sherman Oakes, which would mess up her college transcript. This makes Devi guilty towards her harsh behavior towards Aneesa.
She has a discussion with her Dr. Ryan, she feels extremely guilty about potentially ruining Aneesa's career along with their friendship, and she also feels extreme anger towards herself for ruining things with Ben. Devi wants to make an apology to get Aneesa's friendship back along with Ben. Disappointed, Dr. Ryan tries convincing Devi to make a genuine apology, instead of wanting something in return as it would not give her mental clarity, stating that she has been a failure as a therapist towards her.
Nalini has a conversation with Dr. Jackson as she returns him his mail, who attempts to console her. After listening and empathizing with her story, he makes her realise through his own personal story with his child that her daughter's mental wellbeing is beyond anything, hence she should help Devi whenever she needs it.
Kamala is stuck working at her lab and Prashant arrives to keep her company, Devi decides to consistently keep on trying and apologize to Aneesa to feel less guilty and to get Ben back. She makes an elaborate escape plan from home by making Nirmala constantly busy at home, by making her sleep with comfortable blankets, and then making her make near Dosas which take a lot of time and effort.
Devi comes back to school and starts to make a grand plan for her apology to Aneesa. Her grand plan for apologizing to Aneesa fails until as her apologies are nothing despite their grandeur because they didn't come from her heart, much to Aneesa's disappointment, and they made Aneesa feel like an even greater freak, due to her embarrassing public apology. Ben scolds her for her actions and warns her to use her brain before walking away.
Kamala picks Devi back up from school, and she meets Mr. Kulkarni who starts to flirt with her, which Devi immediately stops. Devi inspires Kamala to stand up for her rights which makes her ask Setseg about all the weaknesses of Evan, knowing there are many.
Eventually, Devi she realizes her wrongdoing looking back at memory lane. She reminisces how her dad once apologized to Nalini, by not turning up for her award event by making the most honest and sincere apology he could ever make, by telling her how his ego got in the way of things, understanding the next time instead of making a grand apology in size, she decides to make one grand at heart. For her next attempt, Devi again goes to school, and unlike her previous fancy apology, she does something to comfort Aneesa. At the cafeteria, she starts making fun of herself by reminding everyone how crazy she is, and how she finally understands Aneesa's pain, how terribly guilty she feels by the horrible actions she had committed, showing how she genuinely cares about Aneesa.
This genuine act of apology makes Aneesa forgive her, but she says that to keep her at Sherman Oakes she must manipulate her mother to do that. Devi realizes that while she cannot convince Aneesa's mother, only her mother can as she is the only other Indian woman around. She invites Noor to meet Nalini. Hence, Devi begs her mother for help. After listening to Doctor Jackson's advice, Nalini finally listens to her daughters' pleas, so she convinces Aneesa's mother Noor through a genuine mother to mother conversation to forgive Devi and to give Sherman Oakes High School another chance. Devi and Nalini now end up with an even stronger bond, as Devi starts considering her mother as a hero now.
Kamala ends her work with Evan, getting her name on the research papers, and insulting him breaking a glass on the way out, in inspiration from Devi. The episode ends with Nalini and Doctor Jackson kissing, as Nalini celebrates her victory as a mother.
