... been a perfect girl is the tenth episode in Season 2 of the Netflix series, Never Have I Ever.
Synopsis[]
As Paxton's mixed messages have Devi questioning herself, the upcoming winter dance offers a chance to determine where she stands—and what she needs.
Plot[]
Paxton continues to come to Devi's room every night secretly to hookup, but whenever they're in school, Paxton treats her like a friend. Paxton reveals to Devi that he is embarrassed to date someone who cheated on him, so he tells Devi that they'll either date in secret, or not at all. Devi chooses to date in secret. However, she imagines a visit from her late father, who makes her realize that she shouldn't agree to something she's not comfortable with. Devi decides to confront Paxton and tells him that if they have to continue their relationship in secret and not a public one like she wants, she'd rather not go on with the secret relationship. She concludes the confrontation by telling Paxton he was a good kisser.
Fabiola is no longer captain of the Robotics team because she missed eight robotics practices for her LGBTQ+, Cricket Queen popularity. Ironically, Eric reveals that Lenny, another member of the team, is also part of the LGBTQ+ community and is unpopular.
Then comes the night of the Winter Ball, and Devi doesn't have a date. At the Ball, Fabiola and Eve win Cricket Queen and Queen! Trent asks Eleanor, who he mistakenly called "Erica," to dance and she accepts.
Devi decides to go outside but ends up getting hit by Paxton's jeep. She doesn't get injured and it surprised to discover that Paxton came to the Winter Ball for her. When she asks if he came as her friend, he says that he came as Devi's boyfriend. This leads to them kissing. Then they both walk hand in hand to the Ball which lead to surprised reactions from friends like Fabiola, Eleanor, Trent, Jonah, etc. Then Paxton and Devi start dancing together and they kiss. Ben reacts by saying "It's always been him, hasn't it." which leads to Eleanor saying that Devi wanted to choose Ben after he took her to Malibu, but they talked her out of it. This was new information to Ben, who is just left left standing there, as Devi and Paxton make out.
